2019 Fall Quilt Market in Houston

Before too much time gets away from me, I thought I’d share a bit from my 2019 Fall Quilt Market in Houston experience. (And do a giveaway!)

Carolyn Friedlander Fall Quilt Market Houston 2019 booth

By taking a booth break this past spring, I found myself feeling refreshed and able to enjoy creating an environment to show off the things I’ve been thinking about and working on. Stepping back and looking at what you’ve done can be good. It makes me excited for the projects I most enjoyed and eager to get going on the next things. It may be a booth for me, but you could absolutely gather up some of your own recent projects, either physically or digitally, and reflect a bit on what you’ve been making. I’ll bet it gives you a little spark for whatever might come next.

Back to the booth, here’s what’s in there.

And some more…

Phew, so much stuff! I feel like I rarely share the booth details and projects all together like this. What do you think? Is it helpful to have a project hub? I’m hoping it’s an easy way to take it all in.

These Eads mini blocks have been something I’ve wanted to do FOREVER, which is to take leftovers from a big Eads project and work them into a mini version. This time, I’m using little scraps from the bigger project and letting 3 lemon yellow and light fabrics (both Jetty and Kona) take the lead. It’s totally a weekend project, and I’m excited to carve out more time to let it grow.

Spring Quilt Market 2017 in St Louis.

Spring Quilt Market 2017 in St Louis was fun, fast and a total whirlwind as usual. Here are some highlights.

First, the booth–featuring my new patterns Eads and Tee, plus my new fabric Blake and many many projects. (Specific posts to come on all of those things!)

Now the other stuff, starting with some Blake gang signs…or something like that.

Arianna, Elise, Ariga, Ellen and I were all sporting some Blake on the first day of the show. Patterns are (from left to right), Colette Moneta, Tilly And The Buttons Zadie Dress, Colette Moneta, Grainline Penny Raglan, Seamwork Jane

I love Jemellia’s Myrtle (pattern by Colette) in Blake!

Jenni Smith’s Sloth quilt (-within-a-quilt) is pretty darn special!

I always like a booth with a sewing feature. Big thanks to Bernina and Janome for lending some machines. Here are Megan and Ellen sewing up some knits. See, it’s fun, not scary!

Julia’s new sewing pattern is pretty great, which is why I just had to whip up a couple of Dumpling Pincushions for the booth–in Blake (and some Friedlander too). (BTW, Julia’s Hayden top in Arroyo is pretty stunning…)

It was really exciting to see this quilt in May Chappell’s booth by Theresa Reid using my Friedlander fabrics. (That hand quilting!)

Last, but not least, I loved spotting this Euclid cameo in the Soak booth, along with the labels that I designed for their Pineapple Grove scent.

Now that I’m home, I’m doing much of the obvious stuff–catching up on things and following up on stuff, but I’ve also been quilting, or rather patchworking like crazy. I love it when I’m feeling inspired to sew, and even though I’ve been promising myself some new garments (kalle kalle kalle) and a bag (I’m looking at you, Traverse), I keep finding myself glued to my sewing machine, sewing up new ideas as well as some new stuff from others. It’s been fun.

But I do need to clean my sewing room…that will happen soon!

Best of 2016 + a giveaway

It’s really crazy that 2016 is almost over. It’s been a good year, and as always, I’m going to put together a little year-end digest to see what has happened. If you’re like me and always thinking ahead, you know that it’s too easy to forget things that have already happened. This is why it can be such a treat to take a look back, and also why it is so important. So do it! You’ll be glad you did.

It’s been a great year, and I am kind of surprised by how much stuff I made. The release of Euclid meant I could sew up all kinds of stuff from clothes to accessories to quilts, and Friedlander and Carkai got sewn into projects new and old throughout the year. I had a great time teaching at several places across the country, but especially during my first overseas teaching trip to Australia.

I’m so grateful for all of your support, and as a thank you I’m happy to give away some of the highlights from this year. Up to grabs, we have – Local 2016, Morris Lawn, Pine, a Friedlander FQ bundle, some Euclid FQs, Hesperides, Crew, Rin and Wildabon.

To enter, simply leave a comment on this post about something special from 2016 OR something you’re looking forward to in 2017. I’ll be picking 9 winners on Friday, January 6 at 11am EST. Giveaway is now closed, but thank you for all of your comments! I enjoyed reading through each and every one of them.

Thanks again for your continued support, and I wish you all the best in 2017!
