grove stamped goldCompany profile :

Carolyn Friedlander LLC is a design company that specializes in fresh, modern quilt and sewing patterns. I started the company in early 2010 with custom machine quilting. Soon after I introduced a line of quilt patterns and this year have added a line of art quilt stamps. Because of the company’s roots in machine quilting, all patterns are designed with the quilting process in mind. The product line is geared toward artistic quilters of all skill levels, and patterns offer updated designs to paper-piece. The art quilt stamps offer opportunities to take quilting projects a step further through fabric manipulation and customization.

I grew up in Lake Wales, Florida, on a cattle and citrus ranch, where I spent much of my time making all kinds of stuff. After graduating from Washington University in St Louis with a B.A. in Architecture in 2006, I spent the next two and a half years practicing architecture in downtown St. Louis. Although I learned to sew as a kid, it wasn’t until 2009 that I learned to quilt, and I have pursued it passionately ever since. As a young quilter with a design school background, I was drawn to bright and bold fabrics and saw a need for fresh, modern patterns. Thus, I began to create my own patterns. Most recently, I have forged new creative opportunities for surface design by developing a line of art quilt stamps. I have been honored to receive recognition for my quilting at local and national shows and to have contributed to Stitch Magazine.

Today, I work from my hometown, an environment I enjoy for its warm weather, few distractions and potent community of quilters and crafters. I love to both learn from and teach others. In my work, I draw inspiration from features of the Florida landscape—its long leaf pines, palmettos, water, scrub land, sand—as well as the architecture, history, and cultural identity of St. Louis.
