I love using this lightweight seam roller any time I am making a project with open seams. Before pressing with the iron, I open the seam up with my fingers and roll over it with this seam roller. I find that it opens the fabric up nicely and makes pressing the seam a breeze. (No burned fingers!)

I also like using this seam roller any time I need to make a crease in fabric. It works beautifully.
