Euclid Wrap Pocket Totes

Euclid starts shipping this month–yay! And to celebrate that, I plan to step up my sharing game on my Euclid projects. I’ve made so much stuff and haven’t totally caught up on sharing it all. To start, here are a couple of Euclid Wrap Pocket Totes that I made right before Quilt Market. The pattern, Wrap Pocket Tote by Purl Soho–a free tutorial–is one that has always intrigued me.

In the first one, I used some Euclid for the exterior, some Architextures for the trim and lining, some Robert Kaufman Denim (this and this) for the pocket and handle, and my Carkai for the pocket trim.

I even made use of the special edge treatment in this Euclid print for one of the panels.

I made these totes basically as instructed in the tutorial. I didn’t add any extra interfacing to the exterior or lining pieces, they are simply the fabrics themselves which make for a nice weight. However, since I made my own handles (which isn’t in the tutorial), I interfaced those to give them plenty of stability. I’ve found that handles take the most abuse and can benefit from added stability.

For the other one, I used more Euclid for the exterior, some Carkai for the trim and handles and then some Doe for the lining.

I can’t remember exactly, but I either cut something wrong, needed a little extra height or just felt like adding a piece of this Robert Kaufman denim to one of the exterior panels. Because of the way this bag is constructed, I wasn’t sure how it would affect the final product, but I was pleasantly surprised with how it all played out. In the end, I like how it adds something special to the bottom of the bag.

Light-colored linings are typically my go-to. It just makes it all so much easier to see into when you’re rooting around to find what you need.
