Spoonflower swatch shirt.

I’m working on refining my summer wardrobe staples, and one thing that I know is that cotton lawn will be a big part of that equation. This is why I eagerly said yes to trying out the new cotton lawn substrate from Spoonflower.

I went back and forth on which pattern to use for longer than I should have, which I blame on the fact that there are too many patterns floating around that I want to make. In the end, I decided on the Alder Shirtdress (View A) by Grainline. I made a sleeved-dress version of it for Market–which I really liked–and so I figured it would be a perfect sleeveless shirt to sport this summer.

To shorten it, I simply used the Archer pattern as a guide for the length since I’ve made it so many times and am comfortable with its length. But, I just noticed that Jen has a tutorial here for turning it into a shirt as well.

Whenever I pick things from Spoonflower, I tend to go for interesting/fun choices, because they have so many in their marketplace. I was intrigued by this swatch print, because of its play on print. I knew that it wouldn’t be a boring sew. (Of course, there’s arguably the biggest benefit of Spoonflower, which is that you can design your own fabric–so there’s that direction you could take too.)

I’m really happy with how it turned out. It’s easy to wear, so comfortable and the pattern fits amazingly–which means I’ll be making many more…

What did you think of the cotton lawn fabric itself? How does it feel, compared to other brand’s lawns? How has it held up to laundering?

    Thanks for the review!
